CAPABILITY COMPARISON · SHOOTING SOLUTION / SOLVER

GS Ballistic Suite vs. Applied Ballistics, Strelok Pro, Hornady 4DOF & GeoBallistics

What each platform can and can't do, grouped by the parts of a real solve: drag modeling, corrections, weather input, shot geometry, trueing, and data.

us — GS Ballistic Suite leads them — a competitor leads tie — functionally equivalent
How this comparison was built. The GS Ballistic Suite column is read directly from this app's own source code as of v4.7.34 (October 2026). The Applied Ballistics/Kestrel, Strelok Pro, Hornady 4DOF and GeoBallistics (BallisticsARC) columns are based on each vendor's public product documentation, app-store listings and support pages as of August–September 2026 — not hands-on, side-by-side testing. Competitor products change over time, and where public documentation didn't clearly confirm a capability we've marked the cell "not confirmed in public docs" rather than guess. Treat close calls ("tie") as directionally correct rather than lab-verified. If something below looks out of date, let us know at support@gsbs.co.za and we'll correct it. "Strelok Pro" here means the original app by Igor Borisov, not Strelok LLC's newer, unaffiliated "Strelok Pro-Ballistic Platform". Sources consulted are listed at the bottom of this page.

Bottom line

Where GS Ballistic Suite leads

  • Rimfire drag modeling: RA4 applied automatically by default — matching what Strelok Pro offers as a manual selection, and beating AB's 2-measured-load rimfire coverage.
  • Trueing granularity: session, permanent, and mechanical offsets tracked and reset independently — no competitor here offers that level of separation.
  • ELR Trajectory Diagnostic: a read-only multi-model diagnostic that tests Zero offset, MV, global BC/drag and velocity-banded BC against your entered DOPE and ranks them by RMSE, with a recommended validation distance — competitors here true one parameter at a time, not a ranked multi-hypothesis fit.
  • Session/DOPE history depth, with a full environment snapshot per entry.
  • Reloading integration — Universal Loader talks directly to a Bluetooth powder dispenser, and Ladder/OCW load development is built in; no competitor here does either.
  • Rifle-mounted Bluetooth cant sensor (SG Pulse) with a shot timer — not confirmed as a comparable capability in any competitor's public docs.
  • Velocity Loss BC Calculator — solves BC (or an RA4 drag-scale factor) from chronograph readings taken downrange; competitors here document truing from observed drop instead.
  • Local backup, PDF export, and phone-to-phone sharing with no account required — most competitors here lean on a cloud account for this.
  • Live phone-to-phone spotter sharing over BLE, no account or server.
  • Import rifle/load data straight from Strelok or Applied Ballistics/Kestrel when switching over — not confirmed as a comparable capability in any competitor's public docs.
  • A free PCP / air rifle platform with its own pellet/slug catalog, alongside centerfire and rimfire.
  • Multi-rifle ranking by hit % (Calculate all rifles) — every saved rifle simulated against the same shot and target with its own group, showing the target size each needs for 50% hits — not confirmed as a comparable capability in any competitor's public docs.
  • Equipment Reach Planner — a mechanical dial-capability check from entered scope travel and rail cant, with a ranked upgrade plan when the current setup can't reach; not confirmed as a comparable capability in any competitor's public docs.

Where competitors lead

  • Real measured drag-curve libraries — Applied Ballistics and Hornady 4DOF both build on radar-measured drag data; this app has neither. Its bullet/factory-ammo catalog supplies published BCs and factory MVs, not independently measured drag curves.
  • Powder-temperature MV sensitivity — this app now supports up to three chronographed points with piecewise-linear interpolation, but AB and Hornady 4DOF ship curated tested-powder libraries so the user doesn't have to chronograph it themselves at all.
  • Laser rangefinder Bluetooth integration — not supported here at all; AB, Strelok, and GeoBallistics offer it directly, and Hornady 4DOF offers partial support via Kestrel-protocol-compatible rangefinders.
  • Cloud account sync across devices — AB, Strelok, 4DOF, and GeoBallistics all offer it in some form.
  • AB and Hornady specifically pair with dedicated weather-meter hardware that works without a phone.
  • Applied Ballistics' Monte Carlo hit-probability analysis runs directly on dedicated Kestrel hardware in the field, independent of a phone.
